Health Insurance/Immunizations for International Students
Health insurance is required of all
International Students. Students may use their own policies if they meet the
minimum requirements of the College (see below) and if that policy is recognized
by the Insurance Commissioner of the State of Mississippi. All such policies
must be submitted for verification in advance to Belhaven’s International
Student Office at least one month prior to enrollment at the College. The
policies must be presented in English language, and must be resubmitted annually
for verification. If the policy does not meet the requirements, the student
will purchase insurance upon payment of enrollment fees at the time of
matriculation.
Student Insurance Mandatory Requirement
As part of your acceptance to Belhaven
College, you have agreed to either purchase student insurance or provide proof
that you are already covered by an adequate insurance policy. An adequate
insurance policy must include:
At least $50,000 in accident and sickness
coverage for hospitalization and outpatient medical care, $10,000 for medical
evacuation and $7,500 in repatriation benefits with a previously approved
insurance company.
This requirement is being implemented for
your protection!
- Many hospitals in the United States will
not accept a non-immigrant international student without adequate insurance
for non-emergency care. This presents a devastating financial hardship on you
and your family. It also presents a tremendous problem for Belhaven College
in trying to assist you. (Belhaven has no funds to pay these bills.)
- Immigration regulations state that all
non-immigrant students be financially responsible to meet all anticipated
expenses while residing in the United States. With the high cost of medical
care in the United States, financial responsibility necessitates having
adequate medical insurance.
IMMUNIZATIONS
Students should submit mumps, measles, and rubella immunization certificates. Arrangements will be made for tuberculosis testing prior to registration.
