TOEFL Requirements for International Students
All international students must submit an acceptable score
on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The minimum score required for
entering Belhaven College is 500 paper-based, or 61
internet-based. TOEFL scores must be no more than two years old and must be verifiable.
Completion of intensive English training or English composition courses at a
U.S. college does not waive the TOEFL requirement. Only students who are
citizens of Australia, the Bahamas, Canada, England, Guyana, Ireland, and New
Zealand are automatically exempt from this requirement. Citizens of
Botswana, Lesotho, South Africa, and Swaziland are only exempt if English is
listed as the first language on the senior certificate.
TOEFL is administrated in the U.S. six times a year, and in
some locations twelve times a year by Educational Testing Services.
Information can also be obtained overseas at the United States Educational
Foundation offices in New Delhi, India; Institute of International Education in
Hong Kong; the American Korean Foundation offices in Seoul, Korea; the Language
Center in Taipei, Taiwan; and many U.S. embassies and consulates.
Belhaven College's TOEFL code is 1055.
