1960's
Dixie McKie Baird '62 Travelling to visit family in NC, MS, and CA; sold my Harley and keeping both feet on the ground with cross-country skiing in CO; hiking in the Smokies; part time work at an import home furnishings store;church volunteer work; entertaining; and yard work. Dixie McKie Baird
John W. SumrallJr. '64 I have written a book entitled "Classic Magnolia Rock-History of Original Mississippi Rock and Roll 1953-1970" which is currently at most book stores and from my website www.classicmagnoliarock.com.
Dr. Robert Lee Penny '66 After over thirty five years of Presbyterian ministry, Adrianne and I recently moved to the Jackson area where I am now Vice President for Development at Reformed Theological Seminary, my alma mater, Adrianne does a lot of watercolor for local shows and custom work for patrons. We have two children and four grandchildren in the area, with one three hours north in Hernando. We are around Belhaven a good deal and frequently see faculty, staff, and adminstration people. Bob is still able to serve churches as substitute preacher and teacher and visits many presbyteries regularly.
1970's
Richard Lamar Burguet '77 Richard Burguet ('77) and his wife Anne (Dodson '74) Burguet are now the proud grandparents of their first grandchild, Mackenzie Owen. Serving New Hope Presbyterian Church in Eustis Florida as senior pastor keeps Richard busy, and teaching sixth grade Language Arts at The Geneva Classical Christian School occupies Anne's weeks.
1980's
Julia (Julie) McRae McRae Barham '80 Our family moved in with my mother (now 86) in Miami fall 2002 when my father died. The most exciting thing that has happened in my new life "back home" is the re-discovery of friends on Facebook! Pretty sad, huh? Neil ('84) and I have three "chillun": Hannah (19), Seth (16), and Leah (15). And Seth wants to go to Belhaven!
1990's
Cecelia Grinstead '96 Cecelia is getting recertified to teach in Alabama and is still substitute teaching in grades 2 thru 8th grade in the greater Birmingham area. Cecelia is also putting my God-given artistic talents to use and in the process of starting a small business with a line of stationery cards known as "Caring Cards" that can be seen on my blog ART FOR JOY at caringcardsbycece.blogspot.com.
Brian DeHuff '98 Brian lives in Montgomery, Alabama and recently welcomed a new daughter, Rivers. He also has 2 sons, Johnson (4) and Knox (2).
Amber Therese Foster Kidner '98 Married in June 2007 to Jason Kidner. We have a son named Elliot who was born 23 Feb 2008. We serve with World Harvest Mission as missionaries on a church planting team in west London. Our team has a special interest in reaching the first and subsequent generations of South Asians living in our community.
Dan Marks '98 Dan has been the Chief Marketing Officer at First Tennessee for nearly two years. Katie has been named Chair for Junior League's Merry Marketplace in 2010. Sam will turn two on Christmas day.
2000's
Suzanne Marie Niess Sanders '01 Suzanne Niess Sanders (class of 2001) and Marcus Sanders welcomed Clara-Grace Marie Sanders into the world on November 4, 2008. Suzanne is Co-Director of Center Pointe Dance Academy with locations in Brandon and Clinton, MS.
Louise B. Beckham Anderson '02 Louise Anderson (2002) was recently installed as Corporate President of Executive Women International at their annual conference, held this year in Louisville, KY.
Established in 1938, EWIî is a non-profit organization with more than 2,500 member firms and 2,800 representatives in major cities throughout the United States and Canada. EWI brings members together to promote member firms, to enhance personal and professional development, and to encourage community involvement.
Dr. Paul Gundy '02 Paul Gundy ('02) is currently serving a 6 month deployment to Afghanistan with the 74th Naval Construction Battalion. Paul also ran in the Marine Corps Marathon in Afghanistan, placing 12th out of 256 finishers. Paul (a Navy dentist) and wife, Annie (Roberts - '03) live in Diamondhead, MS where Annie is a stay-at-home mom to their two little girls, Averie Jane and Olivia Mae. The Gundys will be moving to Beaufort, South Carolina next summer to finish Paul's stint with the Navy.
Thomas Yates Gardner '03 My wife Mollie and I have been living in Vienna, Austria since 2006 serving as full time missionaries at Vienna Christian School. We came over with our oldest son (Thad, 4) and had a second son (Ian, 2) here in 2007. I serve as the school chaplain as well as teaching 9th grade Bible and 10th grade World History.
Dr. Jennifer Craft Bain '04 Jacob Bain and Jennifer (Craft) Bain (both 2004 graduates) now live in Pelham, AL. Jacob is a computer programmer and Jennifer is at the University of Alabama at Birmingham specializing in Periodontics and pursuing a PhD in clinical research.
Bethany Herron '05 Bethany Herron is now a 6-month employee for the State of Missouri. She works as a Workforce Development Specialist in one of Missouri's Career Centers. Bethany still is passionate about the performing arts and is currently the President on the Board of Directors for the New Haven Community Theatre Company (NCTC). This season, she directed the musical, "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown."
Charles Levi Pearce '07 CL and his family will begin their life in India for Christ in January of 2010.
Lindsey Berg '09 Serving in Mbarara, Uganda, through Africa Inland Mission from October 1, 2009 until May 27, 2010 using health education as a means to share Christ in the community and hospital.
IN MEMORIAM
Annie West Smiley Boone '36 passed away on September 19, 2008 in Holly Springs, MS. She taught Sunday school and Bible study for many years in the First Baptist Church, where she was the oldest member.
Elizabeth "Tay" Powell Wise ’37 passed away at the age of 93 on July 19, 2008. Tay and her late husband, Sherwood, had 5 children, 13 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Tay was also a very active member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Cathedral as well as in the musical community in Jackson.
Beverly McLaurin Howell ’40 passed away on June 26, 2008 at the age of 89. Beverly was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Starkville. She and her husband, Irl, moved to Azalea Trace Retirement Facility in Pensacola, FL in 1998.
Mary Edith Durst Walker ’43 passed away on June 21, 2008 at the age of 87. Mary was an elder at Leland Presbyterian Church as well as an officer in the Leland Garden Club.
Jane Ramsay Lowry Dunham ’44 died on October 24, 2008. She was 85.
Anita Margaret Fagan ’44 passed away September 1, 2008 at the age of 87 in Laurel, MS. Anita was an active, lifelong member of First Baptist Church, and was greatly involved in the community.
Harry "Brook" Jacobs ’44 died August 28, 2008. Harry was the owner of Greenbrook Flowers and the founder of "Good Neighbor Day". He was a Director of FTD and floral retailer of the year. He was also honored for his work with the Diabetes Foundation of MS and Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital.
Marion Howard Robinson ’44 died on August 24, 2008 at the age of 86. Marion and her husband, Sidney, were lifelong residents of Jackson, members of First Presbyterian Church since 1959, and raised three children together. Marion was involved with several charitable organizations and was known for her artistic eye and excellent taste.
Jeanne H. Suttle ’44 passed away in her home on August 21, 2008. Jeanne was a former school teacher and member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church.
Martha Collins Harris Campbell ’53 died on October 15, 2008 at St. Dominic Hospital. She and her husband, Jim Campbell, raised four children together. Martha was a member of Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church and was involved in many social and philanthropic activities.
