The Blazers defense was stellar on Friday as they beat the TTU Crusaders 2-0. The contest was a little more tight between the Scots and the Blazers, as neither team could break a 1-1 tie during two overtimes. More . . . Lady Blazers and Coach Sabillon Get First Wins of 2008 Jackson, Miss. - Belhaven College women’s soccer hit the road over last weekend to take on Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee and then Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Georgia. The Lady Blazers were dominant on Friday and recorded a 10-0 shut-out of the home standing Lady Crusaders and then, on Saturday, were able to top the Lady Scots by a score of 2-1. Belhaven Football Falls in Season OpenerLivingston, Ala. – The Belhaven Blazers got a little more than they could handle from the University of West Alabama on Saturday night in Tiger Stadium. The NCAA Division II Tigers, rebuilt from a year ago with a new offense coach and many new Junior College and Division I transfers, put up 35 points in the first half, en route to a 49-12 victory over the Blazers. Volleyball Victorious in Season OpenerJackson, Miss. - The Belhaven volleyball team opened up their 2008 campaign with a dominant victory over NCAA DI opponent Alcorn State University Friday in Rugg Arena. A Sit-Down With Coach Sabillon Jackson, Miss., The Belhaven women’s soccer team will travel to Chattanooga, TN on Saturday to take on Tennessee Temple University in the team’s season opener. There is much anticipation for the start of the season, especially with the arrival of 1st year head coach Josue Sabillon. Coach Sabillon joined the Lady Blazers in May and has been working hard to instill his ideas and methods into his players. Earlier in the week, we had a chance to sit down with Coach Sabillon and find out what he thinks about his team at Belhaven. More . . . Belhaven at Concordia Kick-off Time Changed to 2:00 PMJackson, Miss., The Blazers contest Saturday September 6th versus Concordia College in Selma, AL has been changed to 2:00PM. The game was originally scheduled for 5:00 PM. Blazers Eager to Kick-Off the 2008 SeasonIt has been nine months since the Blazers wrapped up the 2008 season and the anticipation of kick-off is becoming greater every day. The team finished with a 5-6 record last season after claiming the Mid-South Conference West Division title in 2006. This season, the Blazers have high expectations and many players believe they have the ability to win a conference championship. Jackson, Miss., Belhaven College Head Baseball Coach Hill Denson was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame this weekend. The 2008 induction class includes Denson, Will Clark, Coolidge Ball, Paul Covington, Jennifer Gillom, and Reggie Collier.

Lady Blazers Volleyball Named NAIA Scholar Team

Jackson, Miss., The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced that the 2007-08 Lady Blazers were named as a scholar team. NAIA student-athletes around the country work diligently throughout the year for academic excellence at their respective institutions. This year over 750 teams earned at least a 3.0 team grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) during the 2007-08 academic year, as defined by its institution. The Lady Blazers had a team GPA of 3.21 for the year.
