Student and Alumni Spotlights for the Social Work Program
Name: Joanna Long
Major: Social Work
Hometown: Clinton, Mississippi
Fact: I grew up on the mission field in Portugal and Poland.
I chose to come to Belhaven because... two of my siblings had attended Belhaven and I was eager to follow in their footsteps. The size of the school was very attractive to me since I had gone to a really big high school where it was impossible to know everyone. I love being able to greet people by name, and getting to know my professors. The Biblical perspective at Belhaven is so refreshing as well as challenging for spiritual growth.
The relationship that has meant the most to me while attending Belhaven... is my fellow Caldwell girls! It is so much fun living in the residence halls and building relationships with these girls. Everyone comes from such different backgrounds, and yet God brought all of us to Belhaven and he has given us such an amazing opportunity to encourage, love, and just have fun with each other. Some of my happiest times here have been sitting in the hallway talking and laughing!
Because of my degree from Belhaven... I will be prepared to explore the field of Social Work! I am so excited about this degree because it will give me the skills and experience I need to do what I love: help people. I believe that the most important way we can serve God is by loving and serving others. Relationships are so important. Social Work provides so many different ways in which I can build relationships with people and show them the love of Christ in a hurting and broken world.
One word to describe my experience at Belhaven: EXCITING!
