Student and Alumni Spotlights for the Visual Arts Program
I chose to come to Belhaven because... of Practicum. Practicum is the time between November and February when the Art Majors work on their own artwork rather than assigned projects. The studio classes end earlier than other classes in the fall semester, and begin later in the spring semester. Practicum is designed to give students experience developing their own artwork, rather than simply completing assignments. Belhaven is the only school that I know of which has practicum, therefore, it was my first, and essentially my only choice.
One relationship that meant a lot to me while attending Belhaven... is that of my professor, David West. He has been very encouraging about my work both in class as well as my ideas and projects outside of class.
Because of my degree from Belhaven University... I will have a well developed artistic process and I will have the skills to continue developing my process. I may not go into a career in art, but I will always be able to do art on my own, and I will always see the world in a unique way because of what I have learned at Belhaven.
One word to describe my experience at Belhaven: Ameliorating
