Speaker: Reverend Dr. D. Scott Weimer

Named one of Georgia Trend magazine’s “100 Most Influential Georgians” in 2006, Dr. Scott Weimer is currently the senior pastor of North Avenue Presbyterian Church, located in the growing midtown section of Atlanta. Coming from previous pastoral calls at First Church in Bradenton, Florida and Clairmont Presbyterian in Atlanta, Scott continues his commitment to ministry in his eighteenth year of leadership at North Avenue, a church established more than a century ago.

Within the past few years, Scott has traveled to South Africa, Kenya, Egypt, Israel, and various parts of Europe. In 2007, he led trips to Thailand, Myanmar, and Honduras. In 2006, he visited North Avenue Presbyterian’s sister church in Mexico City and participated in a dedication ceremony at Presbyterian University in Kenya. During the summer of 2005, after being named one of three Georgia pastors to receive the prestigious Pastoral Sabbatical Grant from the Lilly Foundation, Scott traveled to South Korea, China, and France. For his focus on mission around the world and in Atlanta, Scott was honored with the James H. Costen Award for Religion, given by the Interdenominational Theological Center in April 2007.

Scott is a former moderator of the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta and a current member of the Board of Trustees of the Presbyterian Foundation.  His community service includes service as a board member and former executive board member of The Westminster Schools in Atlanta and founding board member of StreetGRACE, an organization dedicated to ending domestic sex trafficking of minors.

Scott and his wife Cynthia (a graduate of Duke University) celebrated 36 years of marriage in December 2015 and enjoy spending quiet time together in the midst of their otherwise busy lives. An avid reader and runner, Scott also enjoys watching college basketball (go Jayhawks!). A native of Clay Center, Kansas, Scott completed his undergraduate work at the University of Kansas.  In 1978, he moved to Chicago to receive his Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Divinity School; later he earned his Master of Theology with specialization in History of Doctrine from Princeton Theological Seminary in New Jersey. In 1991, he received his Doctorate of Ministry from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia.

Scott and Cynthia live in Mableton, Georgia. They have three children - daughter Christen Weimer, a graduate of Barnard College-Columbia University; son James, a graduate of the University of Georgia; and their late son Justin.
