Student and Alumni Spotlights for the Dance Program
Name: Patience Lay
Fact: My name is Patience Lay May-Shen. I am an international student from Malaysia and I am an identical twin. I am older than my sister, Mercy Lay by 3 minutes.
I chose to come to Belhaven because... of its claim in the website saying "Our standard is Christ." I chose Belhaven without a second thought of other schools. I came all by faith because I knew His faithfulness. Dance is used in so many ways, but I wanted dance to be a tool for evangelism. God proved Himself sovereign and faithful to miraculously lead me to know about Belhaven through a stranger who became our friend during a wedding dinner.
One relationship that has meant a lot to me while attending Belhaven...is God; He is always my help and strength daily. Everyday was a challenge to cope with my dance training and academic studies. God has shown His love to me, encouraged me and supported me through the people around me, such as my friends, professors, and most of all, my sister who is always by my side.
Because of my degree from Belhaven University...I experienced a great journey that I never imagined. My faith in Christ grew as I overcome each challenge. The more I do well in my successes, the more humble I become because I know that without God, I would think of giving up during my freshman years. I am looking forward to use what I have gained from Belhaven to set up a Dance Ministry when the time comes. My vision is to use dance as a means to bring the gospel forward without verbal preaching in places that forbid the gospel, for instance performing dances to approach non-Christians, and witness my life testimony to them as friends, through sharing my experience with the Lord and His faithfulness.
One word to describe my experience at Belhaven: God-loving
