Belhaven College Professor Receives State Recognition
Belhaven College's Professor of Theatre, Louis Campbell, Ph.D. has been named the Humanities Teacher Award for 2007, as awarded by the Mississippi Humanities Council. The award, which is given to one humanities faculty member at each higher education institution in the state, will be given to Dr. Campbell on Friday, October 26.
Dr. Lou is the consumate Belhaven professor. His experience in the world of theatre as a director and theatre designer enriches all of Jackson, said Dr. Dan Fredricks, Provost of Belhaven College. His heart for students and ministry through the arts has been the hallmark of Belhaven's theatre department which Dr. Lou created and has headed for the past eight years.
Each award recipient must agree to make a public presentation based on scholarly research or current humanities interests. Dr. Campbell, who teaches theatre courses, will present a lecture entitled Mime In Our Time, on October 26 at 7:30pm in the Flex Theatre, CFA.
I am honored to be chosen to represent such a distinguished group of scholars and mentors, Dr. Lou said. The legacy of one's life is not in the accumulation of experiences but in the privilege of sharing those experiences with coming generations of active minds in the hope that they might understand that past and step purposefully toward our future to accept that there is meaning and coherence designed in the universe.
