Belhaven Hosts MS Music Teachers Association Conference

October 31, 2012 (Jackson) - The annual Mississippi Music Teachers Association (MMTA) Fall Conference will be hosted this year by Belhaven University. This gathering of music teaching professionals from around the state will be held on November 2-3 in Belhaven’s Center for the Arts. “Belhaven is privileged to host this year’s fall and spring conferences,” said Dr. Stephen Sachs, Belhaven’s Music Department Chair and Professor of Piano.

The MMTA is a non-profit that works to further the art of music, and promote the growth and professional development of its members by providing programs that support teaching, performance, composition and research.

Lectures, master classes, and recitals are just a few of the things going on at the MMTA Conference. College and high school students will bring their own compositions to be performed and critiqued. Composer Robert Vandall will lead a list of music faculty from around the area to showcase a wide variety of music and teaching.

The conference fee is $20. Ticket includes admission to all events of the weekend. All students may register for free. Call 601-974-6494 or email vtate@belhaven.edu for any additional information.
