Belhaven's Softball Team Finishes 3rd in National Championship

May 27, 2011 (Gulf Shores, AL) - Belhaven's softball team saw the 2011 season come to a close finishing third in this year's national tournament and scoring the title of SSAC Conference Champions. It's the highest finish for any Belhaven team in any sport since the 1992 Men's Soccer team won the NAIA National Championship.

“I'm proud of the girls and the run that they made this year considering the circumstances of a new staff and how they responded,” said Belhaven Head Coach Kevin Griffin. “We didn't have a great fall and no one knew to expect over 52 game season. However, we came together as a team and went further than any other softball team in the history of Belhaven's program.”

Belhaven finishes the year with 50 wins and marks the second consecutive season that the team has 50 wins or more.

Three Belhaven softball players Annalee Carr, Christina Jaques, and Sarah Burns earned NAIA All-American Honors when the awards were recently announced by the NAIA. The trio was also selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association East Region First Team for their accomplishments on the field this season.
