Blazers Softball Win SSAC Championship, Blazers Baseball Advance in Tournament

May 2, 2011 (Columbus, GA) -The Belhaven softball team won the 2011 Southern States Athletic Conference Championship Saturday afternoon defeating Shorter University 8-0 in the tournament finals. The Blazers, ranked 8th in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll, went 4-0 in the tournament and are now 44-10 in 2011.

Belhaven will now await word on their seeding and first opponent in the NAIA National Tournament starting May 19th. Shorter will also continue on to the NAIA National Tournament having secured the other SSAC automatic bid for being the tournament runner up. Sarah Burns, Christina Jaques, and Annalee Carr will join the SSAC all–tournament team.

In baseball news, the Blazers continue to advance in the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament. The Belhaven baseball team notched a 13-3 win over Shorter University on Saturday night in the second round of the SSAC tournament at Golden Park in Columbus, GA. The Blazers, ranked 22nd in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll, pounded out 15 hits pulled away for the win thanks in large part to a three run third inning, a three run fourth inning, and a five run fifth inning.

Belhaven baseball will be back in action on Monday night at 6:00 p.m. when they meet up with William Carey University in round three of the SSAC Tournament. Fans can follow all the play-by-play action through live audio courtesy of Stretch Internet.
