Business Students Earn Top Honors in National Competition

CAPSIM Top HonorsOctober 27, 2017 (Jackson, Miss.) - Student teams from the Belhaven’s MBA program competed in the nationwide CAPSIM business simulation and earned top honors. Approximately 2,000 teams from MBA programs across the country took part in the competition, designed to prepare business students to run profitable businesses.

Dr. William Penn, economics and business professor, had several Belhaven teams from his class earn accolades.  One team, that consisted of business majors Ruth Bingham, Erica Brown, Valica Davis, and Erin Johnson, placed nationally in the top 10 percent. Two of the other Belhaven teams placed in the upper 15 percent and three in the top 30 percent.

“We are proud to have a Belhaven team finish at the top and in such a highly competitive event. Our business students have the knowledge, skill, and ability to compete not just in Mississippi, but throughout the nation.” said Chip Mason, dean of Belhaven’s School of Business.

The University has competed in the simulation for several years and has consistently placed a team in the upper percentile, competing against such schools as Duke University, Brigham Young University, University of Texas, Baylor University, and Auburn University.

CAPSIM business simulations engage participants in a dynamic competition to turn companies into successful, profitable businesses. Classes are divided into teams that work together to focus on strategy, finance, production, marketing and all the key elements that interact to build their business.
