Dr. Phillips Receives Mississippi Humanities Teacher Award

November 7, 2013 (Jackson) - Dr. Stephen Phillips, Associate Professor of History and Political Science, was honored with the 2013 Humanities Teacher Award. Dr. Phillips will be giving a public presentation on Monday, November 11 at 7:00 p.m. in Belhaven’s Barber Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. He will speak on “Christianity and the American Founding with Observations on Current Applications in Public and Foreign Policy.”

Dr. Phillips comments, “In my presentation, I will be summarizing and reviewing my findings as well as commenting upon current actions of the Federal Government and governing officials in regard to whether they have followed the views of the American Founders and the consequences of these actions.”

The Humanities Teacher Awards recognize the contributions of humanities faculty at each of the state's colleges and universities. Nominations are made by the college or university president or humanities dean. Each award recipient is required to prepare and deliver a public lecture during October, National Arts and Humanities Month, or November. Recipients are then recognized at the Mississippi Humanities Council's annual awards ceremony in the spring.
