Theatre Department Presents Juliet and Her Romeo

October 8, 2010: The Belhaven University Theatre Department will present Juliet and Her Romeo the last two weeks in October. The play is a stylized presentation of Shakespeare’s tragedy directed by Theatre department chair Joseph Frost. “The show is an experiment,” says Frost, “taking a play that is a familiar story and constantly shifting the way we view that story.” One significant shift is the eight actors in the play changing roles for every scene. “The audience’s perspective changes as well,” Frost continues, “as we will be changing the seating arrangement in the theatre during the performance from a traditional stage to being in-the-round and beyond.”

Frost is excited to be working with guest costumer Kate Pierson. Pierson is designing the show with a very strong style known as Steampunk, which combines elements from several different eras, all mixed with a mechanical, metallic feel.

The play will be performed in the Blackbox Theatre of the Center for the Arts on October 21-23 and 27-30 at 7:30 pm, with Saturday matinees at 2:00 pm on October 23 & 30. General admission $10, Seniors/Students/Children $5. Complimentary admission for Belhaven faculty/staff/students and immediate families. Doors open at 7:00 pm. Opening night reception on October 21 following the performance.
