Dr. William Penn currently serves as a Full Professor in Economics and Business at Belhaven University and is the Program Manager for the MBA program. He has been at Belhaven for 38 years. Previously he worked for Ford Motor Company as a Financial Analyst in the Controller’s Office of the Product Development Group; Assistant Professor of Economics and Department Chairman at Loyola University in Baltimore Maryland; Independent Consultant for Booz, Allen & Hamilton in Bethesda, Maryland; and Independent Consultant and President of the Citizens league of Baltimore, Inc.
Dr. Penn is a forensic economist, has been a legal consultant (“expert witness”) in 14 cases for over 15 years; and has been Director of the Belhaven Small Business Center. Over the last 40 plus years, Dr. Penn has presented and/or published 39 articles and is currently working on “Responsible Home Ownership and Quality of Life.”
Dr. Penn’s undergraduate degree was in Economics at McDaniel College and his Ph. D. in Economics was granted by Duke University where his dissertation was titled” Differences Between the Perceived Costs of Urban Passenger Transportation and Their Effects Upon the choice of Travel Mode.” He has also had additional graduate study at the Institute of Applied Economics at the University of Chicago.
Dr. Penn enjoys teaching and interacting with students, colleagues, and business leaders. He currently teaches or has recently taught: Introductory Micro and Macro Economics; Introductory Statistics; Operations Management; Personal Finance; Strategic Management at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; Business Ethics; Managerial Economics (Graduate Level); Quantitative Decision- making (Graduate Level); and Economics and Public Policy (Graduate Level).
