Student and Alumni Spotlights for the English Program

Missy Samsel, English Major

Name: Missy Samsel
Major: English
Hometown: Clinton, MS
Fact: I love to ride horses, especially in barrel races.

I chose to come to Belhaven because... the faculty and staff at Belhaven promote the values I strive to uphold and teach the worldview that I believe. To me, there was never really any other choice; Belhaven was the best. The professors help you in every way that they can- academically, spiritually, and socially- they are always there for you. When I think about Belhaven, it feels like a big family- the students, staff and professors. The main reason I chose Belhaven is that the professors proclaim the Word of God and the Good News of Jesus, and while teaching they strive to glorify their Creator in everything they say, do, and think.

One relationship that has meant a lot to me while attending Belhaven University... the professor-student relationship is extremely important to me. Whenever I have a question about anything, whether it pertains to class or not, I know that I am always welcome to ask. This relationship is special and, I think, unique to Belhaven.

Because of my degree from Belhaven... having received an English degree from Belhaven, I will be qualified to teach what I have learned to others. Hopefully, I will be able to apply my knowledge when I teach my own children if the Lord blesses me with a family.

One word to describe my experience at Belhaven is: Scintillating
