The Bachelor of Arts in History builds upon survey courses in world civilization and American history, including advanced studies introducing significant historical periods in America, major developments in other cultures, and theories and practices of politics. Belhaven faculty members promote excellence in scholarship and conduct their courses following the Christian mission of the college and the biblical worldview.
The study of history is an effort to understand past human experiences and interpret their meaning and relevance for the present and the future. Rather than a recollection of facts, it involves the examination of peoples' decisions and value systems. At Belhaven, each history major is taught the necessary background required for many other areas of academic study, and the Department of History and Political Science offers internships in various government offices and other public policy areas, leading students down career paths in education, law, church, government, media, travel and business.
