Student and Alumni Spotlights for the Arts Administration Program

Carly, Arts Administration Major

Name: Carly Stearns
Major: Arts Administration
Minor: Dance
Hometown: Wantage, New Jersey
Fact: I have my own bright yellow kayak that I named Ducky.

I chose to come to Belhaven University because... of its excellence in Christian education as well as in arts education. Belhaven's programs in all of the arts are so exciting, and I wanted to be an Arts Administration major in a school where the arts were a priority. I could see that the arts at Belhaven were penetrating the secular world, and I wanted to be a part of bringing excellence into the art world as a Christian artist and administrator. I was also attracted by the close community of students at Belhaven. Being surrounded by people who have the same ideals and faith that I have was a very exciting thought.

One relationship that has meant a lot to me while attending Belhaven University... has quite honestly been my relationship with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Coming to Belhaven was a huge change for me; I was stepping out into an unknown world where I knew no one and everything was different. Without my relationship with the Savior I would not have been able to come out of my shell and develop the wonderful relationships I have formed with the people around me. Without the relationship I have with Him I would have become discouraged and filled with doubt, but instead He filled me with peace and I learned to trust Him even more than I knew was possible.

Because of my degree from Belhaven University... I have been introduced to options and ideas that I could not have thought of without inspiration from my professors and the students around me. I am so excited to see where this degree leads me as I seek out graduate programs and new opportunities.

One Word to describe my experience at Belhaven: Surprising
