The Jazz Ensemble provides a professional atmosphere for students interested in excelling at playing jazz. The Belhaven University Jazz Ensemble is the premiere instrumental jazz performing group within the Department of Music.

Its repertoire covers musical styles, which includes classic works from the bands of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, songs from the 1940-50s, to contemporary arrangements, including those written and arranged by students.

Serving as a musical ambassadors for the college, the Jazz Ensemble performs several concerts on campus throughout the year and travels to many destinations off campus to spread the joy of music. The Jazz Ensemble is open by audition to any student, regardless of major.

JAZZ COMBO

Consisting of only 4 to 7 members, the combo performs three times per semester on- and off-campus. Jazz combos are open to all undergraduate and graduate students, regardless of major, by audition. Unlike the jazz bands, the combo is open to improvising students on all instruments.
