Student and Alumni Spotlights for the Music Program

Andrew Craig, Instrumental Education

Name: Andrew Craig
Major: Instrumental Education
Hometown: Carol Stream, IL
Fact: In my copious amounts of free time, I love playing Euchre.

I chose to come to Belhaven University because...the university as well as the Department of Music has established their identity foremost in Christ and secondly in commitment to the arts.

One relationship that has meant a lot to me while attending Belhaven University is...that with music professors Dr. and Mrs. Sachs. When I first visited Belhaven, they sat me down and asked “What do you want to get out of your time here?” Dr. Sachs, department chair, is always in tune with his music majors. I know that any time I’m struggling with an issue, I can stop by his office and he will listen and help me through it. He has created an incredibly personal department where all students are valued and receive individualized training towards where God has called them. Mrs. Sachs is the department mom. In small ways she always makes sure students are doing okay spiritually and emotionally. (Especially during juries!)

Because of my degree from Belhaven University... I am prepared to change the way the world views artists that follow Christ. In our culture, there is a God-sized void in the arts, Belhaven is becoming part of the solution by training artists to reach our world for Christ. Additionally, not only am I surviving, but thriving in the professional market before I have even graduated. There are very few schools, secular or Christian, that can say that about the majority of their students.

One word to describe your experience at Belhaven: Purpose-driven
