September 14, 2009—Both the men and women soccer teams shutout Texas College 4-0 and 2-0, respectively, on Saturday, September 12 at H.T. Newell Field. Both the Blazers and Lady Blazers are 3-1 on the season.

The Blazers, who are receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll, saw excellent offense led by Juan Rodriguez who scored three goals during the game. Jose Robles scored his first goal of the 2009 season, for a Blazer total of four goals. Blazer defense kept a tight grip on the game to result in a 4-0 shutout victory against the Steers.

The Lady Blazers’ defense dominated the game against Texas College, which allowed the Lady Steers only one shot during the entire contest. In contrast, the Lady Blazers took 30 shots against the Lady Steers, with goals by Christian Kaim and Nicole Trawick. Trawick leads the Lady Blazers with a total of six goals and 12 points on the season. Junior goalkeeper Jessica Eggold is 3-0 on the season in the net.

The Blazers will return to the field on Friday in a match against Embry-Riddle University at the University of Mobile Tournament. The game is slated to get underway at 5:00 PM. The Blazers will then meet up with the University of Texas at Brownsville on Saturday night beginning at 5:00 PM. The Lady Blazers will travel to cross town rival Millsaps College for a showdown with the Lady Majors on Friday night. The match is set to begin at 8:00 PM.
