Alum Graduates from FBI, Serves and Protects PublicAugust 29, 2019 (Jackson, Miss.) - Belhaven alum Charles W. Haynes '11 graduated from the FBI National Academy in June 2019. He is using his skills and knowledge to serve and protect at a higher level.

Haynes, a Jackson, Mississippi native, has worked his way to the top and is now the government affairs director for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MDPS). He has an extensive background in criminal investigations, executive protection, governmental affairs, and cyber related offenses.

He has a total of 15 years of law enforcement experience and his tenure includes municipal, state, and federal task force assignments. Haynes current responsibilities include governmental liaison work with Mississippi legislators and conducting research for MDPS appropriations, funding, and growth initiatives during annual legislative sessions.

“I am using what I learned at Belhaven University to help me help others and apply Christian principles to each endeavor,” said Haynes. We are imperfect beings, but we all have the potential to start new each day, and the University helped me understand that proper research is key to responsibly laying the groundwork before any undertaking.”

Haynes graduated from the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officer's Training Academy (MLEOTA) in March 2004 as second platoon leader, and also graduated platoon leader from Mississippi Highway Patrol Cadet Class 57 in March 2006, with no prior military experience.

He served as a state trooper in the central enforcement region, Special Operations Group (SOG), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Joint Terrorism Task Force.

Haynes earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management in 2011 and a Master of Science in Leadership in 2013 from Belhaven University. He currently serves as an adjunct professor in the Belhaven University's online school of business program.
