2020 Commencement Postponed September 3, 2020 (Jackson, Miss.) - Plans for Belhaven University's postponed May 2020 Commencement have changed due to COVID-19. The University had planned to honor the Spring 2020 graduates during its annual homecoming weekend on October 30-31, however continuing restrictions due to COVID-19 have made a large gathering impossible at this time. The University will hold an in-person commencement for Spring 2020 graduates as soon as it is safe for all.

“During this ever-changing season, safety is our top priority,” said Belhaven University President Dr. Roger Parrott. “Belhaven University is committed to holding an in-person live commencement for the May 2020 graduates and their families, but a future date will not be set until large gatherings can be held safely. We look forward to celebrating the many significant accomplishments of these graduates at the appropriate time.”

Commencement isn't the only event to be affected by the pandemic. The American Southwest Conference Council of Presidents announced a delay to conference-scheduled competition and championship events for fall sports with anticipation of resuming ASC competition and tournaments in spring 2021. The delay includes the fall sports of cross country, football, soccer, and volleyball.

Demonstrating its commitment to safety, Belhaven University outlined common practices to protect its students, faculty, and staff. The Belhaven Promise provides guidelines for both an offensive and defensive strategy while students are on campus. “It is critical for our safety that we agree to these precautionary boundaries, and hold to these standards because of our commitment to love each other in Christ,” said Dr. Parrott,“As our Belhaven Promise instructs, we need to play both offense and defense to keep us all safe in the game.”
