Belhaven University Named a 2021 Great College to Work For
September 13, 2021 (Jackson, Miss.) - Belhaven University is one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to a new survey by the Great Colleges to Work For program. This is the second time the University was awarded this distinction.
The results, released by ModernThink, are based on a survey of 196 colleges and universities. In all, 70 of the 196 institutions achieved Great College to Work For recognition for specific best practices and policies.
Our united passion for Christ-honoring education is what makes Belhaven University such a remarkable place to work, said Belhaven University President Dr. Roger Parrott. To achieve that aim, God has brought to this University an exceptional group of gifted and committed faculty and staff who are all pulling together to achieve our mission and to serve students in the name of Jesus.
There was a total of ten recognition categories this year and Belhaven University was recognized in eight categories that include:
• Job Satisfaction and Support
• Compensation and Benefits
• Mission and Pride
• Supervisor/Department Chair Effectiveness
• Confidence in Senior Leadership
• Faculty and Staff Well-being
• Faculty Experience
• Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging
Belhaven University was also named to the Great Colleges Honor Roll, a status granted to only 42 colleges each year who are highlighted most across the recognition categories.
In my 21 years at the University, I have been challenged individually, supported professionally, and encouraged to share ideas and opinions, said Associate Vice President for Enrollment
Suzanne Sullivan. Compensation and benefits are not something I think about often because I love what I do, but I know we are blessed with our holiday schedule, leave time, benefits package, and the administration encourages us to prioritize time with our families.
There is a high degree of trust and teamwork both within departments and across campus, observed Dr. Chip Mason, Belhaven’s Dean of School of Business. University faculty are servant leaders who follow the example of their senior leadership. The faculty continue to learn from one another and their students as they prepare the next generation to serve Christ Jesus in the marketplace, human relationships, and the world of ideas.
The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institution questionnaire that captured employment data and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators, and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback. The Great Colleges to Work For program is one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country. ModernThink, a strategic human capital consulting firm, administered the survey and analyzed the results.
