The area of Community Outreach strives to impact and reach out to the lives of students at Belhaven by serving the Jackson community through service. The students involved in Community Outreach are a diverse group who come together for the sole purpose of service. For more information regarding upcoming events or opportunities, contact Community Outreach Coordinator, Katie Rowan, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Some of the opportunities to serve include:
- Twice a month students visit a local nursing home to pray and worship with its residents. Those interested meet in the McRavey-Triplett Student Center at 2:15 on first and third Sundays to walk there together.
- Sonbeams is a parent's night out for families affected by children with special needs. It is an opportunity for a group to visit Pear Orchard Presbyterian Church in Ridgeland, MS and spend time playing and witnessing with these children. Sonbeams is held on a bi-monthly basis.
- Other opportunities for service include but are not limited to: Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, Jackson Inner-City Gardeners, Stewpot, Mustard Seed.
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day - This is a special opportunity for the Belhaven staff, faculty, and students to come together as one and serve the surrounding Jackson community. There are no classes on this day creating the perfect opportunity to better the lives of others.
Matthew 5:16, "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."
