Student and Alumni Spotlights for the English Program
Name: Mary Rachel Morris
Hometown: Olive Branch, MS
Fact: I have recently developed an extreme fascination with and a slight knack for playing the ukulele.
I chose to come to Belhaven University because... I knew it was the place for me. I visited only twice during my senior year of high school, but there was never a question in my mind: I wanted to spend my next four years at Belhaven. The atmosphere of people coming together to learn and to grow on a campus with grass hills and sometimes shady trees attracted me to Belhaven. I had lunch with Dr. Hubele, Chair of the English Department, and that sealed the deal: Belhaven or bust.
One relationship that has meant a lot to me while attending Belhaven University is... the relationship I've developed with Jodi Krogman, the Resident Director of Gillespie Hall. Since the first week of my freshman year, I've been blessed with a plethora of relationships. This year, I was able to serve as a Resident Assistant in Gillespie, which allowed me to develop a friendship with Jodi. She has encouraged me to grow in all areas of my life, including my faith. She has even managed to help me become more organized!
Because of my degree from Belhaven University... I hope to one day teach English classes at the high school level. I hope to instill in my future students the love of language and literature, while continually intertwining a love for the ultimate Story Writer. I believe that God wants us to live an amazing story; through the degree I'll receive from Belhaven, I hope to live that story and inspire others to live an amazing story, too.
One word to describe my experience at Belhaven: Fantastic
