Health Services
Belhaven University offers a Health Center for
students during the fall and spring semesters. The Center is located on the
second floor of the McCravey-Triplett Student Center. The Health Center,
which is staffed by a doctor and a nurse practitioner, is open Monday,
Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. during
non-vacation periods. After hours, students can choose from a wide variety
of nearby healthcare options. The Baptist Medical Center and the University
of Mississippi Medical Center are both within one mile of the Belhaven
campus; each of them are reputable and offer full emergency services.
There are also many daytime clinics in the area that offer walk-in service.
Health Center services are provided at no additional charge to students.
These services include unlimited regular visits to the Center. Lab
fees and prescription drugs are not included. Service is limited to
the student only; no family coverage is available. All students must
present their Belhaven ID when signing in for service. A student under
the age of 18 must have his/her parent sign a Consent for Treatment form in
order to receive treatment from the Health Center.
Belhaven University recommends, but does not require, the bacterial meningitis
vaccine for incoming resident students. There has never been a case of
meningitis at Belhaven and the disease is rare, but the College is concerned
that students be protected. The
vaccine costs approximately $80 and can be administered at the Mississippi
Department of Health, just a short drive from campus.
