Success Mentorship Program
The purpose of this program is to integrate student aspirations, abilities and lives to optimize their success in college. Success Mentors are Belhaven staff and faculty members who have a heart for students, are good listeners, and provide a great wealth of wisdom and resources. Throughout a student’s first year they will meet with their Success mentor and have a chance to talk about how things are going for them academically and work together to find solutions that might assist them in having a successful semester.
Benefits to having a Success Mentor
- Personal encouragement and motivation
- Access to resources and practical advice
- Academic and spiritual support
Who can have a Success Mentor?
The Success Mentorship Program is open to all freshmen and transfer students during their first year at Belhaven. Students who are accepted through the admission committee are required to participate.
Where do students sign up?
Students can sign up by filling out a short online application. Through this application, along with other information submitted with a student’s application for admission, we will match students with a Success Mentor and it will assist that person in getting to know them better. After submitting this application, the student will be sent information about their Success Mentor. If the student starts Belhaven during the fall semester, the student will attend the Success Mentorship Program Kick-Off gathering during Welcome Week (orientation) in mid August. This is when the student will meet with his or her Success Mentor for the first time. Throughout the school year, the student will meet with his or her mentor one-on-one about 1-2 times a month.
