Student and Alumni Spotlights for the Education Program

Rebeka Larson, Elementary Education

Name: Rebeka Larson
Major: Elementary Education
Hometown: Charlotte, NC
Fact: I’m learning Japanese to prep for a missionary internship hopefully this upcoming summer!

I chose to come to Belhaven because... of a wonderful man named B.J. Johnston. He and his wife used to work here at Belhaven before they moved away. I was looking for a Christian college with both art and music departments. I remember at my school’s chapel during my tenth grade year B.J. Johnston came to showcase Belhaven. I told my father I wanted to check out Belhaven and we booked a tour of the campus later that year with three other classmates. As soon as I set foot on the campus I knew this is where I wanted to go. B.J. Johnston took us on a tour of the campus and we had fun meeting professors and students. I studied Musical Theatre for my first two years before I changed to my current major, Elementary Education.

One relationship that has meant a lot to me while attending Belhaven... I can’t narrow it down to just one relationship! All my professors were helpful and are wonderful people! They take time out of their busy day to help you or just ask how you are doing or have fun conversations. Some even have invited me over to their houses when I couldn’t go home for a holiday. They have taken care of me through out my college career. They all mean a lot to me.

Because of my degree from Belhaven University... I will be able to teach at any school with a firm foundation in Reading and Music Education. All thanks to the teachers here in both the music and Education Department.

One word to describe my experience at Belhaven: Adventurous
