Angie Thomas: Creative Writing, ‘11
“It truly is a blessing to be a blessing.”
Mississippi has a rich history of great writers and authors. Best-selling author Angie Thomas says Belhaven played a huge role in helping her understand that she could be someone from Mississippi that becomes a famous author whose writing can impact others.
Angie was born, raised, and lives in Jackson. Her debut novel, The Hate U Give, began as her senior capstone project at Belhaven; it was #1 on the New York Times best-seller list 50 weeks straight and was adapted in a major motion picture.
Belhaven’s Angie Thomas Writers Scholarship provides full tuition, room, and board to one incoming creative writing major and additional scholarships to other applicants.
