Welcome to the Heart of Jackson, Mississippi

Belhaven University is an essential fixture of Jackson, the capital city of Mississippi. We were founded in this historic and proud city in 1883 and acquired our current location on Peachtree Street in 1911.

The Greater Belhaven neighborhood is in the heart of the bustling “City With Soul” and is known for its green spaces and architectural diversity as well as its restaurants, locally owned shops, and attractions like the Fairview Inn, the Eudora Welty House & Garden, and New Stage Theatre.

Our centrally located neighborhood provides quick access to other exciting areas of the city, including the hip Fondren District, the charming Belhaven Town Center, and the active downtown. The features that make Jackson a leading cultural hub — museums, eateries, shopping destinations, and world-class medical facilities — are just minutes away.

Stop by for a campus tour. While you’re here, avail yourself of the many possibilities that make life in the Belhaven neighborhood — and in Jackson overall — enjoyable and fulfilling.

About Jackson, Mississippi

We enjoy the resources and benefits of having our campus in a historic neighborhood and state capital urban area. It is vital that Belhaven University’s campus be a safe place for students to study and live, and we go to great lengths to assure multiple layers of safety measures are in place.

This Old House magazine named Jackson's historic Belhaven neighborhood as one of 61 Best Old-House Neighborhoods in the United States and Canada. Belhaven was noted for its walkable, tree-lined streets, houses and buildings of different styles, historic standards, Eudora Welty's home and garden, proximity to downtown and Belhaven University at its heart.

Surrounded by early 1900's homes and shady oak trees, Belhaven is minutes away from the interstate, great restaurants, and cultural attractions. Centrally located in the Southeast, Belhaven is a day trip away from the blues and BBQ of Memphis or a weekend away from New Orleans or the Gulf Coast. In just fifteen minutes you can drive to the Jackson International Airport to catch a flight to home or to a spring break destination. Jackson truly is in the middle of it all! Set up a campus visit and come see for yourself! Need to spend the night? Check out local accommodations.

Every fourth year, Jackson hosts the prestigious International Ballet Competition, rotating with Varna, Bulgaria; Helsinki, Finland; and Moscow. The area's reputation for artistic variety extends beyond this international event and encompasses some of the finest regional theater, opera, ballet, and symphony groups.

We aren't the only ones that think Belhaven is a great place to live. Read some national coverage Jackson has received from places like the New York Times and CNN.
