Political Science at Belhaven: What You Need to Know

We offer a variety of internships/partnerships at local Jackson institutions. We have good relations with:

  • Museums (Civil Rights, Art, Mississippi History, the Old Capitol)
  • Department of Archives & History
  • Government offices such as the Secretary of State’s Office, Members of Congress, both locally and in Washington, D.C., as well as local and national political advocacy groups like the Heritage Foundation.

Government

Thousands of civil service positions are available at federal, state, and local levels. You can join the FBI, the IRS, or even the Foreign Services. Here in Mississippi, our graduates have worked in the Department of Archives & History and other state offices.

Business and Industry

Many large businesses, like banks, insurance companies, communications firms, etc., prefer to employ people who are knowledgeable about world affairs and who have high levels of reading comprehension and communication, especially writing.

Law

Prepare for law school and practice law, or use this training to acquire a variety of positions in business, government, etc.

Education

Earn a secondary education certificate and teach (and coach) in high school; then go on to graduate school for teaching in higher education settings.

Church

Prepare to enter the ministry, other church positions, or the missionary field.

Library

Prepare for library science studies and become a librarian, archivist, or curator.

Media
