Dance Clinic

Belhaven University's Dance Clinic provides medical services for dance majors, minors, and apprentices by a certified athletic trainer. The dance athletic trainer focuses on preventing, recognizing, managing, and rehabilitating injuries. The dance athletic trainer's day may include the following:

  • Prevention of injuries: strength training and conditioning programs are designed to enhance understanding of functional anatomy and biomechanics as well as overall health and well being
  • Assessment and evaluation of injuries
  • Administration of therapeutic modalities and/or exercises for rehabilitation
  • Referral to orthopedic clinics for further evaluation (if necessary)
  • Communication with students and faculty
  • Medical coverage for rehearsals and performances
  • Assistance with Principles of Dance Health and Dance Kinesiology courses

Belhaven University's Dance Department is one of the only programs in the nation with a full-time dance athletic trainer. The Dance Clinic demonstrates Belhaven University's commitment to supporting the health of each dancer's body, mind, and spirit.
