Belhaven Baseball Teams Up With United Blood Services
On Tuesday, October 28th, the Belhaven College Baseball team held their annual Blood Drive at Smith-Wills Stadium and broke a record of giving with 32 pints of blood.
On September 12, 2001, the Belhaven Baseball team started a tradition of giving blood in memory of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The tradition has carried on and continues to grow each year. The blood drive is held each year following fall practice, and the Blazers enjoy the blessings of giving blood through a local blood collection agency, United Blood Services.
Head Coach Hill Denson encourages the Blazers to think of the blood drive in terms of lifelong giving. He says, We look forward to our blood drive every year. It is a great way for us to help others. We talk to our guys a lot about how important blood donation is, and I am really proud of our guys this year. They really stepped up. Hopefully this experience will make them want to continue to give [blood] each yearand the rest of their life.
