February 3, 2012 (Jackson) - The Belhaven Music Department invited Jackson Public Schools best middle and high school instrumentalists to perform in the 2012 JPS All-City Honors Band Concert, happening on February 16 at 7:00 P.M. at Belhavens Center for the Arts Concert Hall.
Brian Jefferson, Murrah High Schools Band Director, said, We have around 200 representatives from just about all of the high schools and middle schools in JPS. This concert is a great opportunity to hear classical, symphonic music from the best of the best in Jackson."
Band students will converge two days before to practice for the February 16th performance. Students from Murrah, Peoples and Bailey to Provine, Callaway Chastain, and Forest Hill are given the challenge and task of learning music within this short time. This is also the only time when these JPS students, who know each other as a band community, can come together and perform.
Dr. Paxton M. Girtmon, Belhavens Director of Bands, Associate Professor of Music and Music Education Chair, said, "What a wonderful way to spend a Thursday evening, listening to the musical talents of Jackson's finest. It promises to be an exciting and fun-packed evening. Come out and support these young musicians."
