Belhaven University Presents Iberian Romance
April 1, 2011: On April 16, 2011, at 7:30 pm, Belhaven Universitys Choral and Vocal Arts will be presenting Iberian Romance in the Center for the Arts Concert Hall. Voice majors, of all voice types, are working on Spanish selections from various time periods and will be featured during the concert.
"Chorally, this event is very challenging, requiring lots of work on less familiar languages, but fun and interesting due to the musical content," said Dr. Christopher Shelt, Professor of Voice, Music Ministries, and Choral Activities.
Iberian Romance is a concert of choral and vocal works written in the Ibero-Romance family of languages, Spanish and Portuguese. Expect exquisite examples from diverse style periods and countries of origin, including some from the pop idioms. This colorful concert will also feature Jean Bergers work, A Brazilian Psalm. This text, largely a setting of Psalm 150, is the longest work in Portuguese. There is complementary admission and doors will open at 7:00 p.m.
