Dr. Jan Lemon is a dedicated and compassionate counseling professor with more than twenty years of experience in mental health and educational counseling. Throughout her career, she has focused on preparing future mental health professionals through a teaching philosophy grounded in the integration of theory and practice, strong ethical foundations, and cultural competence. Recognized for her empathic approach and commitment to student growth, Dr. Lemon is widely respected as a leader in the counseling field. She has served as President of the Mississippi Counseling Association and has been an active member of its Board of Directors for many years. Her contributions have been honored with the MCA Janie G. Rugg Career Contributor Award and the American Counseling Leadership Award.
Dr. Lemon is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Board Qualified Supervisor for the state of Mississippi. She is also a National Certified Counselor and National Certified School Counselor, with additional credentials in Telemental Health and Trauma Counseling. A frequent presenter, she has delivered more than fifty sessions at state, national, and international conferences. She currently serves on the Mississippi Counseling Association Ethics Committee.
Beyond her work in the classroom, Dr. Lemon has published numerous articles on topics including adolescent wellness, family processes in counseling, addiction counseling, and the integration of spirituality in counseling. She is also the author of a Christian fiction novel known for its intricate plots and vivid, memorable characters. Her writing reflects a deep understanding of the human experience, weaving together moments of light and shadow, humor and heartache, to create rich, multi-layered stories that stay with readers long after the final page.
