Dr. Ty Martin earned a Ph.D. in Human Performance with an Exercise Physiology Emphasis from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM), a M.S. in Human Performance with an Exercise Science Emphasis from USM, and a B.S. in the field of Physical Education with an emphasis in Fitness Management from Mississippi State University. In addition, he holds the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Dr. Martin is beginning his career at Belhaven University (AY 2024/2025) and is currently in his 18th academic year (AY 2024/2025) as a teacher in higher education, with the past 16 years (AY 2008/2009 – AY 2023/2024) being at Troy University and prior to that, one year at the University of Southern Mississippi (AY 2005/2006). Throughout his teaching career, he has prepared 57 different course preparations with 324 different course sections taught in Exercise Science and related areas, including course delivery in face-to-face, hybrid, and online environments at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, he has contributed to the production of 70 (46 peer-reviewed) scholarly works including, but not limited to, 12 peer-reviewed publications, 23 peer-reviewed national/international published abstracts and/or presentations, 11 peer-reviewed regional or state published abstracts and/or presentations, 4 invited oral state presentations, and 2 Chair of Master’s Thesis Committees.

Before beginning his collegiate career, the Minnesota Twins selected Ty in the 1996 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft. He was a scholar-athlete in baseball at the University of Florida (1997-1998) and Mississippi State University (1999-2000). While a Gator, he competed in the 1998 College World Series. Following his career at Mississippi State University, the Texas Rangers selected and signed Ty in the 2000 MLB Draft. In July 2002, Martin was awarded Minor League Player of the Month from TOPP’s. Following voluntary retirement from his professional baseball career in 2003, Ty began his graduate career at the University of Southern Mississippi.
