Sarah Waters has been an adjunct professor in the music department since 2016, where she teaches Music History I and II, Ethnomusicology, Popular Music, History of the Arts in Worship, and private voice lessons.  Her teaching focuses on the intersection of music, history, and theology.

She holds a BA from Goucher College, an MME from Jackson State University, and is ABD at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (DMA anticipated, spring 2024). 

In addition to her Belhaven teaching, she is active as a private voice and piano teacher and often serves as a church accompanist. 

She belongs to the American Musicological Society, the Society for Christian Scholarship in Music, and the Global Ethnodoxology Network.  Recent areas of research, with conference presentations, include the oratorios of Heinrich Schütz and the origins of contemporary Choctaw hymnody. 

She lives in Madison with her husband Guy, a New Testament professor at RTS, and they have three children (ages 22, 20, and 16).
