While these degrees may sound like they are synonymous, they are quite different degrees. Both focus on computers and technology and the use of that technology to help businesses and other organizations. Both degrees have some similar courses but there are substantial differences between the two degrees.

Degrees Offered

This degree teaches students how to apply technology to a business setting. This degree focuses more on business operations and how to administer and maintain company data bases. Coursework covers these areas:

  • Storytelling with data

Earning Your M.S. in CIS: What You Need to Know

To be eligible for the Master of Science in Computer Information Systems program, you must:

  • Hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a 2.8 cumulative GPA or have earned 9 hours of graduate credit with a B in each course.
  • Submit a resume.
  • Submit an essay that includes a description of your career goals upon completion of this program.
