Sport Management: What You’ll Study

A bachelor degree in sport management prepares you for careers in coaching, athletic administration, and the business side of sports. You’ll learn leadership, marketing, operations, and communication skills used in schools, teams, and sport organizations.

Belhaven’s online sport management bachelor degree is designed for working adults, with flexible courses that allow you to balance school with work and family responsibilities.

In Belhaven’s online Sport Management bachelor degree, your hands-on experience is shaped by your chosen concentration, giving you the flexibility to match your career goals and schedule.

Athletic Administration Concentration

You may choose to complete internships, practicum experiences, or applied sport projects for academic credit, building real-world experience in athletic programs and sport organizations. You also have the option to select business electives if you prefer a more flexible path.

Coaching Concentration

You may complete internships, practicum experiences, or applied learning opportunities focused on coaching and team leadership. Alternatively, you can choose business or education electives to align with your professional goals and licensure pathway.

It is important to note that students pursuing the coaching concentration will enter a dual-enrollment program that leads to Secondary Teacher Licensure for the state of MS (ALT/LIC). Completion of the program in its entirety will lead to the BS Sport Management Degree and the Masters of Arts in Teaching degree (9 hours of this program are used to support both degrees). To be considered for this program, students should:

  • Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher; or,
  • 21 or higher on the ACT; or,
  • Pass the Praxis Core Teacher Entry Test; or,
  • Have a qualifying SAT score in Reading and Math

Students will complete 124 hours towards their B.S. Sport Management Coaching Concentration; 9 of these hours are graduate-level, education courses which will also count towards the MAT Degree.

Whether you gain experience in the field or through coursework, you’ll graduate prepared to step into leadership roles in sport settings.
