July 24, 2009—Current Belhaven All-American 3rd baseman Tiffany Ansley has earned a spot on this year’s Puerto Rican National Softball Team. Ansley will participate with the Puerto Rican team in the upcoming VII Pan American Softball Championship for Women held in Maracay, Venezuela July 31st through August 9th. A total of 22 countries including the United States will participate in this year’s event.

Ansley, a junior from Miami, FL, was second on the Lady Blazers’ softball team, with a.442 batting average, 15 doubles and 29 runs. Her .442 batting average was good for second in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference behind teammate Mallory Meadows at .485. Ansley had a total of 76 hits, which was second highest in the GCAC and her 15 doubles placed her third in that category in the conference.

“I knew she had a great shot in making the team,” says Head Coach Rick Fremin. “When I heard the news, I told her I was very proud of her and that knew she could do it. Also, I am excited that she will be representing Belhaven on a national stage.”

The Belhaven College Athletics program is a member of the NAIA, Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, and Mid-South Conference and sponsors 13 intercollegiate sports.
