February 4, 2010: Belhaven University has a number of special events planned to celebrate Black History Month this February. There will be an emphasis on the “10 Days that Changed our Nation,” focusing on key events, turning points, and important people in black history. This “10 Days” theme will be featured throughout the campus so students can better understand how past events have impacted lives today.
In addition to the “10 Days” emphasis, Campus Life has organized special events to commemorate Black History Month, the Gillespie Commons has exchanged its playlist of classical music for jazz and blues for all of February, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will be featured on the campus-wide cable channel all month. Several key events for the month include a special guest artist in chapel, outreach day at the John Perkins Center, prayer gathering on mercy and reconciliation, worship gathering, and a Racial Reconciliation Summit, sponsored by Mission Mississippi at Mississippi College.
