March 15, 2010: The Belhaven University School of Business will host the second annual "Career Bootcamp" on March 26, 2010. The one-day event was created to give students training in workforce preparation, and this year bootcamp will feature guest speaker Dr. Barbara Travis, Executive Director of the Mississippi World Trade Center, as well as Belhaven University professors and professionals from area businesses.
Dr. Kristena Gaylor, Associate Professor of Business and member of the faculty taskforce coordinating the event, says that this year Career Bootcamp will build on last year success, and they are expecting more than 50 students to attend. She states, "There is a buzz around the school of business about the event that is being spread by students as well as faculty inside the classroom. A few students were fortunate to get actual job leads from the mock interviews/panel discussion held during the Bootcamp last year which correlated into full-time employment, so students are excited about the potential this year."
The day agenda will include seminars on "Personality Clusters" by Dr. Bill Penn, Professor of Economics and Business and "Interview Ins and Outs" by Dr. Randy Russ, Associate Professor of Business Administration. There will also be a Business Etiquette luncheon to honor the graduating seniors in the department, which will feature Dr. Barbara Travis, who is well known for her lectures on business etiquette and protocol. The career bootcamp will close with mock interviews conducted by representatives from area businesses. For more information, contact the Belhaven University School of Business: 601-968-8945.
