March 9, 2010: The Belhaven University Biology Department attended the 75th annual Mississippi Academy of Sciences Meetings in Hattiesburg on February 11, 2010, where student Jarrett Morgan won first place for his presentation in the Health Sciences Division and the Belhaven team comprised of Jarrett Morgan, Emily Deaton, Angela Meadows, Joshua Black, Chris Richmond, Hannah Albritton, Sapna Naik, Jessica Wiseman, and Meagan Holton tied for second place in the poster competition.

Morgan was presented the first place award for his summer research, which was entitled "Control of Appetite, Oxygen Consumption, and Energy Expenditure by the Central Leptin Signaling Pathways During Alterations in Ambient Temperature." Belhaven students also presented their Trypanosome research from 2008-2009: "The Effects of Ellagic Acid, Beta-glucan and Vinblastine in Various Combination in Rats Infected with Trypanosoma lewisi."
