June 11, 2010: Christopher Brown was awarded third place for his poem “Resurrection” in the Conference on Christianity and Literature (CCL) Student Writing Contest. Chris is a sophomore Art major/Creative Writing minor from Lookout Mountain, Georgia. As his prize, he will receive a generous selection of books, a one-year subscription to Image, and a one-year membership to the Conference on Christianity and Literature.

“I am not surprised that Chris placed in a national writing contest for poetry,” said Dr. Randall Smith, Director of Creative Writing. “This year, he has consistently demonstrated excellence in writing, exploring the nuanced interaction of form and content in his poetry. Because he is a visual artist as well, his work is strengthened by the artist’s eye for detailed imagery. His exploration of form has been influenced by wide reading in contemporary American poetry, including authors like James Dickey, Wendell Berry, Scott Cairns, Tony Crunk, and T.S. Eliot.”
