January 25, 2010: The Belhaven University men’s basketball team moved up to 12th in the latest 2009-2010 NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll when it was released by the NAIA on Monday afternoon. The Blazers cracked the top 25 poll last week at number 20 for the first time this season.

Belhaven improved to 16-2 overall and stayed perfect in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play at 6-0 thanks to a pair of victories over Loyola University and Southern University at New Orleans. Belhaven is alone in first place atop the GCAC standings due in part to an 88-80 upset victory by Spring Hill College over Tougaloo. With the loss, Tougaloo dropped from 16th to 21st in this week’s poll, while LSU-Shreveport remained in the number five spot after notching a pair of wins last week.

The Blazers travel to Xavier University (NO) on Thursday at 7:30 PM, and will meet up with cross-town rival Tougaloo College to close out this week’s games.
