February 23, 2010 (Hattiesburg, MS): Sarah Burns of the Belhaven softball team was selected as the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for her efforts against LSU-Alexandria and Williams Baptist College February 16th-20th.
Burns, a junior from Edmond, OK, earned three wins this week and threw a five inning perfect game against Williams Baptist College. In those three games, Burns recorded a total of 25 strikeouts, gave up just five hits, and surrendered only two unearned runs in 19 total innings in the circle. Burns is now 4-0, has 27 strikeouts and an ERA of 0.72 in her four appearances so far this season.
Belhaven will return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to NCAA Division II Delta State University for a doubleheader with the Statesman beginning at 3:00 PM. The Blazers will then hit the road again on Saturday at GCAC rival Dillard University for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM.
