November 8, 2010: A student team from the Belhaven School of Business has finished first out of 155 teams competing in the nationwide Capsim business simulation, a competition designed to prepare aspiring business people to run profitable businesses.

Belhaven Adjunct Professor Michael Jordan explained, “This team really took the time and effort to study and understand what we were trying to accomplish and then implemented their strategic plan almost flawlessly.”

Belhaven has competed in the simulation for several years and consistently places a team in the top 25, competing against such schools as Bowling Green State University and Cornell College.

Capsim business simulations engage participants in a dynamic competition to turn companies into successful, profitable businesses. Classes are divided into teams that work together to focus on strategy, finance, production, marketing and all the key elements that interact to build their business.

Congratulations to Michael Pickering, Walter Primas, Sabrena Bartley, Joycette Nichols, and Kenisha Taylor who produced a cumulative profit of over 50 million dollars by the end of the game.

Belhaven stands among the select Christian colleges and universities that offer a unique general core curriculum encouraging the development of a personal worldview. The university believes a Christian worldview is a key to preparing men and women academically and spiritually to serve Christ Jesus in their careers, in human relationships, and in the world of ideas.

Founded in 1883, Belhaven University now serves over 3,000 students from campuses in Jackson, Memphis, Orlando, Houston, and online, offering traditional undergraduate degrees, graduate and adult degree programs, and online degree programs.
